4. Data collection on VEGAN.IST

Server log files

When you access VEGAN.IST, general server log data is processed automatically. This may include in particular:

  • IP address of the requesting device
  • date and time of access
  • name of the requested resource
  • amount of data transferred
  • message whether the request was successful
  • browser type and version
  • user operating system
  • referrer URL

Processing is carried out to ensure system stability and security and for error analysis. These log data are not combined with other data sets for advertising purposes or to build advertising profiles; linking within the purposes described under “Account” and “Content reports” remains reserved where necessary. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interests in technical security and operation).

Account and use of the platform

When you create a user account or use the platform, we process the data you enter or generate (e.g. profile, content and usage data) where necessary to provide the features, to perform contracts with you or steps prior to entering a contract, and to communicate with you. This may include texts, location information and images you upload (e.g. profile photos). Depending on the situation, the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (contract or pre-contractual measures), Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent, where obtained) and/or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interests in secure and reliable operation). Data are stored until you request erasure, withdraw consent or the purpose ceases to apply; statutory retention periods remain unaffected.

Reporting public content

If you report public content via VEGAN.IST, we process the contact details you provide (name, email address), the text of your report and the IP address recorded when you submit it, in order to review the report and contact you if we have follow-up questions. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interests in a lawful, secure platform and in handling abuse reports).

Cookies and local storage

VEGAN.IST does not use tracking cookies for advertising or analytics purposes, nor analytics software such as Google Analytics. Technically necessary cookies are used, for example to store your language preference (NEXT_LOCALE) and in connection with sign-in and secure communication with the backend (e.g. CSRF/session mechanisms of Laravel Sanctum on the API domain). Certain settings may also be stored locally in the browser (e.g. localStorage) to improve usability; as a rule, core profile data are not stored there. Legal bases are Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR and – where you consent – Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.

Sign-in and account linking with Google or Facebook

You may optionally sign in, register or later connect an existing account on VEGAN.IST using “Google” or “Facebook”. You will be redirected to Google (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) or Meta / Facebook (Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, 4 Grand Canal Square, Grand Canal Harbour, Dublin 2, Ireland) to authenticate there. Depending on the provider and your settings there, we may receive e.g. a technical user identifier, name, email address and a profile image URL. We store this information to provide and manage your VEGAN.IST user account. Depending on the situation, the legal bases are Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (contract or pre-contractual measures) and Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR where you have consented to the transfer with the respective provider. Any further processing by Google or Meta is outside our control; their privacy notices apply in that respect.
